Welcome

The second six weeks is almost over so cadets have gotten many opportunies this school year to participate in JROTC events. If you have any questions or concerns, click the FAQ tab and browse the site. There is also a QR code posted in the JROTC room that cadets can scan for information.

 

Upcoming Events

Unfortunately, this year we will  not be participating in the annual Veterans Day Parade. On Thursday, November 12, the Summit JROTC will be hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony. All Veterans in the area are welcome to attend.  

 

Teams

Practices for all teams will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:30 pm. Orienteering team will meet for practice will be on Mondays starting November 16. Cadets are allowed to participate in more than one team. These teams are commanded by cadets who will help mentor and teach them various skills. We will participate in the South Grand Prairie Drill Meet. The P.T. and Color Guard team are going Saturday, December 5. Come out this Tuesday or Thursday and participate!   

 

  Volunteer Opportunities

This past month, the battalion has taken part in the city of Mansfield Boo Bash. On Friday, November 13, cadets will have the opportunity to get volunteer hours by helping the band prepare for their annual craft fest. Since that day is an early release and staff development day, cadets will be expected to leave at dismissal time and return back to Summit by 2pm to help. On Saturday, November 14, JROTC will be working the Charlotte Anderson fall carnival from 1-5pm. Cadets who signed up to volunteer will be expected to have their own transportation to and from the event.

Welcome

Dear Parents and Cadets, hello and welcome to the 2015-16 Jaguar Battalion. This newsletter is a monthly article to update you on news and upcoming events on the battalion. This month we will be doing numerous things such as volunteering for the City of Mansfield Halloween Carnival, working the MISD Drill Meet. We are wrapping up our first six weeks and beginning the second. By this point, students have already received their uniforms, leadership positions and learned the JROTC fundamentals. Our motto is “Seek the Mantle of leadership” and that is what we will be doing this year. Teams

Congratulations to the male and female P.T. teams in their placing in the Denton Drill Meet on September 26.  We have many teams that our cadets can compete in including Physical Training (exercise), Armed Drill (spinning rifles), Color Guard (flags and rifles), JLAB and unarmed drill. Cadets are welcome to join any team of their choosing. Beginning next week, practices for all teams will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00 pm. Cadets are allowed to participate in more than one team. These teams are commanded by cadets who will help mentor and teach them various skills. We will participate in many drill meets and competitions throughout the year. We hope you will take advantage of the experiences we offer.  

 

  Volunteer Opportunities

JROTC is a great program to be in. Being in this program gives you many volunteer opportunities. This past month, the battalion has worked with Canine Companions. This past weekend, selected cadets volunteered at the MISD Drill Meet. Another volunteer opportunity will be the Halloween Carnival Boo Bash hosted by the city of Mansfield on October 30. Selected cadets will also compete against other Mansfield ISD JROTC programs in physical fitness events on the 17th at Legacy High School. On the 19th of October, we will be hosting a fundraiser at Chipotle to raise funds for our military ball.  Military Ball is a formal event that will be held April 2. If you are interested in joining the military ball committee, notify Major Ellington. We will be having our first meeting after school from 3-4pm on October 13th.

Do It For Thaddeus

The Jaguar Battalion would appreciate everyone's help and support for one of our own. Cadet Thaddeus Turner is battling cancer and we are asling that all cadets wear red and white ribbons to show our support. We will also be writing get well messages on water bottles for the cadet and soccer player.  

 

 

Upcoming Events

On Saturday, December 5, please come out and support the Color Guard and PT teams at the South Grand Prairie Drill Meet. December 15-18, all core classes and foreign languages will be having final exams. Good luck to all students!

Military Ball

The Jaguar Battalion would like to invite all parents, teachers and cadets to our annual military ball. Invitations have been sent home with cadets on March 8. This year's theme is the Great Gatsby/ Roaring 20s. The ball will be held in the Ben Barber Commons on  Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 6:30pm-10:30pm. Tickets will be $27.00 until Spring Break. When we come back from break, they will be $35.00. All guests must purchase tickets and vote on menu ballots by Thursday, March 24. We are asking that all guests are in dresscode and  as well as in the Great Gatsby/1920s theme. Male cadets wear class A with a white button up and bow tie, female cadets and guests are to be  We are expecting all cadets know what's expected of them. Follow all rules from the PowerPoint presentation shown in class and we'll have a great time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Upcoming Events

Our annual military ball is coming up on the second of April. Please cadets, buy tickets and come out! This Great Gatsby affair is something you don't want to miss. Company commanders and first sergeants, get ready because our best company competition is April 11-14. Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Companies will be competing in various events such as P.T., armed and unarmed drill sequences. Bravo is the defending champs. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 10. Good luck to all companies. Our service learning project, H2 Grow will be on April 23. Cadets will have the opportunity to plant trees and other plant and help the environment. April 28 is the annual Mansfield ISD JROTC Pass in Review. The pass in review will be held at Vernon Newsom Stadium. The Jaguar Battalion will be holding an awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 10 all cadet who attend must wear the class A uniform. All parents and cadets are invited but, cadets who have shown exceptional physical training, leadership and academic records throughout the school year will be chosen to receive trophies and medals. Summit's semi-annual Carter Blood Drive will be held all day on May 19. Donors must be 16 years or older to participate in the drive. The Battalion's annual Battalion Organization Day (Field Day) will be held on Tuesday, May 20. Cadets will be excused from classes all day while meeting cadets from other platoons and companies while working on team building skills.

Congratulations to the boys and girls P.T. teams for having a great competition season. Girls recently won third place at the Birdsville Meet.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES and more

The military ball committee is currently looking for volunteers to help set up at military ball at 4pm at Ben Barber on April 2. If you want to help, please tell CSM Moody or Major Ellington. H2 Grow Sign Up will be coming up soon. Cadets will get the opportunity to grow plants and be involved in helping the environment and community.
